As an Associate System Engineer at Canonical, you will provide advanced technical support for Ubuntu-based enterprise companies. This role is ideal for freshers and professionals with a strong foundation in Linux, networking, and system basic troubleshooting.

Role and Responsibilities 

As an Associate System Engineer at Canonical, your Roles & responsible to resolve complex technical issues on Ubuntu-based systems for enterprise customers. Creation and review the roadmap for your product at global meet every six months focusing on design and user experience, developing tools and command line apps. Writing high quality and performant code, potentially serving millions of demanding daily users. Working towards key programming languages and Linux system knowledge. Engaging with horizontal teams and users and the open source community through code reviews and issue trackers. Responding to customer issues as a Major priority in Canonical, develop an understanding of enterprise requirements. Developing skills and awareness of security in software design and implementation.

Technical Proficiencies

Candidates who are interested in applying to Canonical hiring need to have below mentioned technical proficiencies:

  • Basic understanding of Linux systems administration, Ubuntu or other Debian-based distributions.
  • Understanding of networking and hands-on in routing principles, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud infrastructure such as VMware, AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to system performance and hardware issues.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and ticketing tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Jira)
  • Understanding of common internet protocols and services (HTTP, SMTP, LDAP, NFS, etc.).
  • Comfort working in a Work from home mode, connecting team environment using tools like Slack, Zoom, and Git
  • Proficiency in writing or debugging Bash scripts; knowledge of Python is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ITIL practices or other enterprise support methodologies is beneficial.

NOTE: Certification of any of above mentioned technologies and ServiceNow tool certification will be Plue.

Nice-to-have skills

  • Upstream open source contributions (contributing a security patch to the official Ubuntu kernel repository or may related contribution in open source platforms) 
  • Packaging and Linux distribution contributions – Debian, Fedora, Arch, Nix or another
  • Leadership and organization skills (college participation)
  • Presentation and writing skills (PPT making & SOP reviews and documentation)
  • Business and commercial interests

Education Qualification
